New Yuck City 2012
New York City is a beautiful place to live, full of culture and opportunities. It is diverse, artistic and more than ever the benchmark for any growing metropolis. However there is two sides to every story. I fear our beautiful city of NY is heading down a slippery slope that will quickly lose its foothold as the "tossed salad" of the world. We are a people full of culture and compassion for one another. We can come together to pull each other out of any crisis. 9/11 was proof that NY's proud residents can and will come together to help strengthen our bond as New Yorkers. We went from 9/11 to the economic crisis, but even during these grim times our will seen us through these dark days. But as a proud New Yorker, I fear we are nearing an event worse than our economic situation.
We are nearing an age where arts & culture will lose its value to capitalism. It is happening now before our very eyes.
At one point in our cities history there was great compassion for our artist.
This love for our cities art and culture lead a greatnew age movement into restoring DUMBO Brooklyn, and thus keeping us ahead of the Art movement. Even before the DUMBO rennaisance there was the Harlem Rennaisance. We can not even think to deny the impact that these eras had on our city. Fashion Ave. brought textile workers from all over the world to our great city, our influence quickly spread throughout the world. We are young hip and revolutionary but where is our new revolution ? Will we let it die at the hands of the views of Old America ? Or will we as New Yorkers pull together to help keep us at the forefront of arts & culture which is the essence of New York ?
